It sickens me to death how politicians are always out to get veterans, it's not our fault that they were to cowardly to join the military and fight the battles, policing actions and wars they chose to send us to. Now they are trying to close Chapter 317 of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) in Kansas City, because their members are too old to make all the meetings. I am not a veteran of the Vietnam war, and to me it was a war regardless what anybody else says, but I am a veteran of the Iraq War, which I served 2 tours in. Veterans fight for freedom and liberty so the rest of the world can do almost as they please, they have seen horrors the common man couldn't or wouldn't face. Their closest friends have either been killed, shoot, blown up, disfigured or mutilated, those who have survived the horrific ordeals and trials of war are thrown back into society to suck it up on their own. These chapters were formed by fellow veterans so they can help each other cope with their nightmares, have some special place to be with a person that has been and seen what they have seen, because if you haven't been there, you will never truly understand.
I say let these Heroic people enjoy their organization, I don't care if there is only one member left, they are entitled to have it, they fought for it with blood sweat and tears, and were lucky and I should say very lucky they didn't pay the ultimate sacrifice like their brethren before

I bow down to you and hold you in high regard for your two tours in Iraq.
Our Government has it's flaws...that is true. However Uncle Sam isn't the only one to point fingers at.
I admire your courage but question your judgment
However let's let the truth of the matter come forth.
Vietnam Vets did come back to the USA where there were told Vietnam wasn't a war, spit on and told to suck it up. The War ended on April 30, 1975, 34 years ago.
Key Word: 34 years ago.
War. A situtation whereby military troops, (men/women best friends) will witness horrors the common man couldn't or wouldn't face. If you enlist....there is the reality of it all.
Did the fall of the twin towers not cause the same effect upon those involved? Of course it did. Body parts came from the sky, loved ones watched on TV or were on the phone when the towers fell...Emergency people, EMT's Paramedic, Fire, Police...all witnessed the same scene as any War.
They have moved on....and so has the USA.
Does domestic violence not cause horrors no child should witness or any woman endure? Only to be told to "buck up" and be blamed for the abuse?
Here's one for ya:
Every five years the number of women in the US who die at the hands of their partners is equal to the number of males who died in the Viet Nam War. This is straight from the FBI stats as well as the US Crime Report and from the National Department of Justice.
What about them? They learn to be survivors not victims.
The Vietnam Vets? How about being a surviour instead of whining about being a victim? 35 years...and in that time, the Vietnam Vets have had "We are sorry" been acknowledged as overlooked by the US as well. My generation which is the same generation of Vets from Vietnam and those generations since have come forth and honored them for years....it's time to move ON.
War = Horror. Nothing new there....so the Vietnam Vets are more "damaged" than any man/woman who has served?
I think not. True there are real and geninue cases of PTSD and other mental side effects.
This Chapter 317 you mention. Yes, it is a haven to those whom TRULY are disabled.
Yet as they say, "A wolf in sheeps clothing" or "You can't judge a book by it's cover" could apply as well.
There are Vets there who need help there are also Vets who worked, lived full lives, got married, had kids, no drug or alcholol problems, no nightmares, no flashbacks, retired from their careers with full pensions....who are now filing false claims of being "disabled from PTSD", hearing loss, etc..anything to gain $$$$$$$ as they reach their older years....more money, more money....never disabled before....now they are after 30 to 35 years?
Yes, let these Heroic people enjoy their organization, but how about those wolves who are taking what should be given to those who truly are disabled? Seems to me the real horror are those Vietnam Vets (who are capable, mentally sound and have been for YEARS)who are taking benefit money for being "disabled". This cuts into the Gov money set aside for benefits.... every Vets pocket. From WWII, on...and from those Vietnam Vets who truly need it.....or any Vet from the Saudi to Iraq.....so they are stealing from your "brothers" as well.
Shameful...and it's all hidden in a pretty package. Just ask him.
